[SENIORS] Are You SIX TIMES More Likely to Get Dementia!?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
I’m a firm believer in making your own luck.
You can’t control whether or not you were born rich or famous… but there are things that are mostly in your control.
Like your health.
When it comes to aging, it’s not about luck— it’s about making the right choices.
Researchers have found that this disease could make you SIX TIMES more likely to get dementia.
But don’t worry: if you have it, you’re not doomed. There’s always a way to gain control.
Here’s everything you need to know.
*****
If you live with type-1 diabetes, it can feel like the whole world is against you.
You have to worry about blindness, neuropathy, kidney failure and more.
And now there’s something else to add to the list.
A new research study published in the journal Neurology, found that having type-1 diabetes can raise the risk of Alzheimer’s disease more than sixfold.
The findings were based on a study of nearly 3,000 older people with type-1 diabetes and was NOT linked to obesity.
Type-1 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas can’t produce enough of the hormone insulin that helps control blood sugar. It’s usually diagnosed in childhood.
Other studies have agreed that diabetes is a risk factor for dementia because it reduces blood flow to the brain. In fact, blood flow to the brain was decreased by 65 percent (though this was in folks with type-2 diabetes).
Higher inflammation was also associated with less blood flow to the brain – and that’s even if people had good control of their blood sugar and blood pressure.
But as I said before, you can fight back against this “bad luck.”
If you’re type-1 diabetic, you have to work extra hard to keep your blood sugar under control—but it is possible.
Let me show you how.
Dr. Scott’ Anti-Diabetes Program:
- Find easy ways to exercise. Take the stairs, walk to your errands, stand during television commercials… find something fun and stick with it. Exercise is proven to help control blood sugar.
- Weight control. The best way to control type-1 or type-2 diabetes is to maintain a healthy weight. There are many ways to lose weight, but I prefer getting blood sugar under control, dropping inflammation, and giving your metabolism a kick.
- Turmeric. This spice is naturally anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory. It helps reduce insulin resistance, allowing glucose to enter the cells effectively, but it’s also great for your memory as well. You can add more turmeric to your diet or get it as a supplement.
- Olive leaf extract. This herb helps to keep blood sugar under control. I’ve been recommending it to my patients for years.
