Strange Grain DEFEATS High Blood Sugar
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
If you have prediabetes or diabetes, chances are your mainstream doc isn’t much help.
They suggest the over-hyped drugs (which don’t work)… the outrageous workout plans (that no one can do)… or they tell you to give up your favorite foods (who wants to live like that!?).
But what your doc probably hasn’t told you about is a simple, NATURAL way to DEFEAT high blood sugar.
And it all starts with a strange grain.
*****
You’ve heard of eating “bird food” before… but now it’s about to get literal.
Researchers have found that millet could help dramatically lower blood sugar.
Most people know millet as a bird feed (if they know it at all). It’s a grain, just like rice, wheat, and barley. And just like those grains, all you have to do is add water and cook it.
According to new research, published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, millet reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and is even good at helping manage blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.
This is in part because millet has a low glycemic index compared to other grains.
The glycemic index is a measure of how much a food will increase your blood sugar. Millet has a glycemic index of around 52… MUCH lower than rice, corn, wheat, and other grains.
You can cook millet as a healthy breakfast cereal option, or as a side dish for dinner. You can find it in most health food stores.
If you want to take extra steps, here are some other ideas to help with your blood sugar.
Dr. Scott’s Balanced Blood Sugar Approach:
- Eat well. This means avoiding processed foods, eating good proteins, and as many veggies as you can. Staying away from sugar, grains, and starchy vegetables also helps. If you are going to eat sugar, then do it near a meal— this slows down the absorption of sugar.
- Exercise. Don’t feel like you have to run a marathon to be in shape, but walking, golfing, or a game of tennis can all help your body deal with sugar more effectively.
- Inflammation. Buy some cheap “health insurance” by taking supplements that keep your inflammation low. I like fish oil, curcumin, and Boswellia.
- Berberine. This herbal extract is great for the brain and helps to control blood sugar.
- Chromium. This mineral is also well-known to help control blood sugar.
