[COVID-19] Amino Acid Treatment on the Horizon?

Despite how well you try to keep your distance – and regardless of vaccination status – people are STILL getting COVID-19.

Part of it is thanks to the constantly-evolving variants, as well as the colder weather and the holidays. When folks start to socialize indoors again, the virus cases go on the rise.

And while incredible strides have been made in the treatment of COVID, we can still do better.

But some researchers are investigating EVERY possibility.

Now, they’ve found a promising new treatment on the horizon… and it all starts with amino acids.

A new study published in the journal EClinical Medicine found that an amino acid called L-arginine (also called just arginine) can help to restore lung function to people suffering from COVID-19 or pneumonia.

Arginine is an amino acid, the building blocks of proteins. In the body, it’s converted into nitric oxide.

You may have heard of nitric oxide because it helps dilate your blood vessels. People with heart disease want more nitric oxide because it helps lower blood pressure.

When blood vessels dilate, more blood, oxygen, and nutrients can flow to different parts of your body. This means the lungs are more efficient – which is helpful when they are compromised in conditions such as pneumonia and COVID-19.

Nitric oxide protects against clotting – another common problem with COVID-19. It also combines with other molecules to create nitrosoglutathione, which causes your lungs to open up… allowing for the potential to breathe easier.

But believe it or not, arginine has even MORE tricks up its sleeve.

Arginine is also an antimicrobial, which means it can fight bacteria, fungus, and viruses.

It’s also essential for making lymphocytes, the white blood cells that attack viruses and bacteria.

While this new study is small, hopefully researchers will continue to study arginine.

It’s important to note that taking arginine will not prevent you from getting COVID-19.

The study used a dose of 3.2g per day taken in two doses (1.6g in the morning and 1.6g in the evening). I’d suggest taking this only if you get a positive test… and under the guidance of your doctor.

Remember that taking this much arginine can drop your blood pressure, so if you have a heart condition or low blood pressure, it may be best to avoid it.
