Insomnia Solution HIDDEN in Your Backyard!?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
In fact, I’d go even further and say there’s almost NOTHING more vital for your health.
Rest strengthens your immune system, boosts your mood, and so much more.
But if you’re one of the millions of Americans who toss and turn at night, getting your 40 winks can feel WAY out of reach.
Luckily there’s an easy way to get better shuteye… and it’s right in your backyard.
I’m talking about going outside.
When you step outside, you are getting a burst of sunshine (yes, even on those dreary winter days) and fresh air, both of which do wonders for our mood.
But spending more time outdoors doesn’t just make you feel better… it can help you sleep better too.
According to a brand-new study from the Journal of Affective Disorders, folks who spent roughly 2.5 hours outside had:
- an easier time waking up,
- more alertness throughout the day,
- and an easier time falling asleep.
It’s all thanks to something called your circadian rhythm, an internal clock we all have that puts us on schedule to go to bed when the sun sets and to get up when the sun rises.
If you take a person and stick them in a cave and deprive them of sunlight, their schedule changes dramatically. That’s because your eyes have special cells that understand what time of day it is by the quality of sunlight hitting your eye.
I know it can be hard to get outside when weather is at its extreme – either too hot or too cold. But, exposing your body to heat and cold are also good for it.
So, within reason, get outside no matter what the weather is like. As they say throughout Scandinavia, there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing. Invest in a sturdy pair of hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, and a warm hat, and you’ll feel right at home outside, even on chilly days. And before you know it, you’ll be sleeping like a baby in no time!
P.S. Want even more reason to get outside? You can SLASH your risk of death by 51 percent if you add in this Irish secret.
