Easy Listening Trick SPEEDS UP Heart Surgery Recovery
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
If you’re in line for heart surgery, there’s a lot on your mind… to say the least.
There’s the recovery… then the bill… then, of course, your worry about the outcome.
It all ends up producing a lot of anxiety before you even reach the operating table!
There’s also the concern about pain after your surgery (and the well-founded fear of taking prescription pain medication).
Thankfully, researchers have discovered an easy listening trick that can SPEED UP heart surgery recovery.
And you won’t believe it when you hear it…
The answer is music.
While it seems almost silly to say that music can help to reduce pain and suffering before and after a major surgery, the research is downright amazing.
A recent meta-analysis of studies found that listening to music could significantly reduce physical pain and anxiety after major heart surgery.
All without any side effects at all!
The researchers surveyed 20 studies totaling over 1,000 patients. The patients in the studies were given a few choices, or they could bring their own music.
A few of the studies had the patients listen to music on headphones before, during, and after surgery, while others had patients listen to music just after surgery. But it didn’t seem to matter—as long as the patient listened to music at some point during their recovery, they had less anxiety and pain than those in the non-music recovery groups.
It goes to show how many non-invasive solutions there are for pain and anxiety.
I think our reliance on pills to make pain go away has caused us to ignore all the powerful remedies that our minds and nature have for us… and music is certainly one of those tools.
P.S.
Music doesn’t just help after an operation… it could also be the key to stroke recovery as well. Learn more right here.
