Common Condition SKYROCKETS Heart Disease

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

If you’re like most of my patients (and mainstream doctors!), you probably think avoiding heart disease is hard.

You’ll have to give up pizza and burgers… spend hours on the treadmill… and never touch sugar again.

But what if I told you don’t have to make that those dramatic changes to stay healthy?

New research shows that keeping your heart healthy is EASIER than you think.

Instead, all you have to do is address this common condition that SKYROCKETS heart disease.

And you don’t have to sacrifice your lifestyle or diet to do it.

A new study has found that folks who suffer from anemia (iron deficiency) are much more likely to have heart disease.

Iron, as you may remember from high school biology class, is part of an essential protein in our bodies called hemoglobin. And the job of hemoglobin is to deliver oxygen throughout the body.

When iron (and hemoglobin) is low, the heart must pump harder and faster to deliver the oxygen your body needs. This increased pressure raises the risk for stroke, heart attack, and heart failure.

When researchers looked at the health records of over 12,000 participants, they found that folks with an iron deficiency:

  • had a 24 percent increased risk of coronary heart disease,
  • were 26 percent more likely to die from heart attack,
  • and 12 percent more likely to die from ANY cause.

Clearly, there are good reasons to make sure you are getting enough iron!

Make an appointment with your doctor to have your hemoglobin levels checked. This is the best indicator of whether or not you’re anemic.

Like with many nutrients, however, there’s a flip side: you can also have too MUCH iron, and that causes its own set of problems.

Talk to your doctor about anemia, and make sure you have bloodwork done to test your own levels. You’ll be keeping your heart strong without having to give up any treats or devoting yourself to hours and hours of exercise!

P.S. Want an easy way to boost your iron levels? Try this strange “birdseed” grain.
