Exciting New Therapy SLASHES Depression Nearly 80%!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

If you suffer from depression, you know that sometimes people don’t take it seriously.

I’m willing to bet you’ve been told once or twice to just “Buck up!”.

But no matter how dismissive people can be, depression is a legitimate disease… and it affects 6 million seniors every year.

The problem is, most mainstream treatments don’t work long-term.

In fact, up to 33 percent of patients may feel like their antidepressant medication doesn’t work anymore.

That’s why this new study is so exciting.

Researchers have found that a new therapy could slash depression by 80 percent!

And best of all, it’s non-invasive.

If you suffered from depression, you’ve probably tried everything, from antidepressants to talk therapy.

But according to a new study in the American Journal of Psychiatry, using electricity may be the best way to put depression to bed.

Don’t worry—it’s not those intense electric shock treatments that were so popular a few years ago.

The study, out of the Stanford University School of Medicine, found that a new type of magnetic brain stimulation treated almost 80 percent of the volunteers with severe depression.

The study team has developed a therapy called Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy (SAINT), or simply Stanford Neuromodulation Therapy, where they use magnetic stimulation applied directly to the brain.

The researchers use MRI to locate the best target within each person’s brain. Specifically, they target an area called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which helps regulate executive functions, like planning and problem-solving.

Each treatment took roughly 10 minutes.

How well did it work?

After five days of treatment, 78.6 percent of the participants in the treatment group were no longer depressed.

This is HUGE!

For folks like these, who had treatment-resistant depression, it could be a lifeline.

While this treatment is not available everywhere yet, it should be soon. But it’s important to remember that this might not be for everyone. More research is needed to make sure that this treatment is safe and lasting.

Before you try any of these, however, make sure you talk with your doctor. Some natural supplements can interact with antidepressants, and you should never quit antidepressants cold turkey.

Dr. Scott’s Plan to Reduce Depression

  • Lower inflammation. Studies suggest that inflammation may be at the root of depression. You can reduce inflammation by taking fish oil or herbs like curcumin.
  • Exercise. This is still one of the most proven ways to decrease both anxiety and depression. Find a way to get out and exercise every day.
  • Supplement. Herbs like St. John’s wort and amino acids like 5-HTP, have been shown to help with depressed moods.
  • Get some rest. Many studies tie poor sleep to depression. If you’re having problems sleeping, try using calming herbs, the amino acid theanine, and melatonin.
