Skipping These Four Foods TRIPLES Your Dementia Risk
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Think about any nine of your friends.
According to current statistics, at least one of them will be diagnosed with dementia.
And with the way things are, that number could just keep going up.
While we have done wonders with dropping the risk of heart disease (mostly through diet and stopping smoking), dementia is another story.
In the last 20 years, deaths from Alzheimer’s have increased by a terrifying 145 percent.
All of that doesn’t paint a very pretty picture for keeping your wits about you as you age.
But now, you can get the home field advantage.
New research has found that skipping these four foods could TRIPLE your dementia risk.
So if you want to protect your memory, it’s time to start eating smart.
No one likes veggies, right?
While SOME of you reading would tell me there’s a vegetable you love, according to many studies, most people still don’t get enough veggies in their bodies.
This is a problem, because your brain loves (and needs) the nutrients found in vegetables to grow and protect itself.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
According to a new study, published in the Journal of the American Academy of Neurology, folks who eat a diet low in fruits, vegetables, beans, and tea were three times more likely to get dementia.
The researchers followed 1,059 older volunteers (with an average age of 73) for three years. After interviewing each individual about their diets, the researchers would keep track and rate the foods according to inflammation risks.
After culling all of this information, the researchers found that those who skipped out on fruits, veggies, beans, and tea were all at a much higher risk for dementia.
What’s even more interesting is other studies have found that eating a high-veggie diet (like the Mediterranean diet) reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s by as much as 53 percent.
I don’t know about you, but keeping my brain cells as long as possible is a goal of mine – and vegetables play an important role in keeping those brain cells happy.
So, make sure each time you sit down to eat, you include a fruit or vegetable (and, yes, I mean every meal, including breakfast). You don’t have to go too crazy and eat only veggies… just a little serving at each meal will take care of you and your brain.
P.S. If you’re on several prescriptions, there’s something you should know. This mainstream drug has been shown to SKYROCKET your risk of death by dementia 7x. Find out what it is right here.
