Mainstream Drug Causes Brain Bleeding!?

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

No one sets out to get a head injury (except for maybe those prankster fellas on that show whose name I won’t mention in polite company).

But it can still happen to anyone.

Traumatic brain injury can occur when you receive a violent blow or jolt to your head. Anytime you bump your head, you should be aware of the potential for damage.

And thanks to Big Pharma, serious head injuries just got a whole lot easier.

A new study has found that certain types of medications could lead to brain bleeding.

When you show up in an emergency room with a head injury, any doctor worth his salt will order a CT scan. What this type of scan does is show whether there’s intracranial hemorrhage (or bleeding in the brain).

During intracranial hemorrhage, the blood vessels within the brain rupture, allowing blood to leak into the brain tissue.

If they don’t find anything, they send you home.

Only one problem with that: people on blood thinners are more likely to have a DELAYED intracranial hemorrhage after a head injury.

Blood thinners are designed to reduce blood clotting. This includes older drugs like clopidogrel and warfarin, as well as newer ones such as apixaban, rivaroxaban, and dabigatran.

That is, at least according to a three-year study presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. The researchers followed more than 1,000 cases and found that delayed intracranial hemorrhage and even death after head trauma were both significantly higher for folks taking blood thinners.

The scariest part? The bleeding in the brain may not appear on a scan for more than two days in someone who on blood thinners… and the risk was even higher for those taking daily aspirin.

There is one bright spot: the researchers found that the newer blood-thinning medications were better than the older ones.

Blood-thinning medications come with a lot of side-effects. So much so, that they’re on my list of drugs that you should really make sure you need before you start taking them. They’re also very difficult to stop taking and can cause many problems.

If you are one of those people who must take these drugs, just make sure you are aware of the potential for complications should you ever be in an accident where your head is injured.

And if you haven’t begun taking blood thinners yet, make sure that if they’re ever recommended, you get a second opinion before beginning treatment.

P.S. If you’re taking blood thinners, you need to see this shocking “K conspiracy” right away. Click here to uncover the truth.
