This Weird Diet Trick Could SHRINK Tumors!
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Ask your mainstream doc what causes cancer and he’ll rattle off the same old tired answers: your diet… your genes… and your environment.
And he’s not exactly wrong. These things can all damage your health.
But he’s leaving out another major factor when it comes to who gets cancer… and who doesn’t.
Because when it comes to fighting cancer, your biggest ally could come from a very surprising place.
A new study has found that this weird diet trick could SHRINK tumors and boost weak metabolisms in cancer patients.
The answer is intermittent fasting.
You might think that fasting is the LAST thing a cancer patient should do… especially if they’re already struggling to keep food down, thanks to chemo and radiation treatment.
But the thing is, intermittent fasting is something anyone can do.
And this latest research shows just how easy it is to get results.
The new study, published in Cancer Discovery, was the first clinical trial to show that intermittent fasting activates the immune system in a way that could REDUCE cancer.
The researchers in this study put folks on a short-term calorie-restricted diet. The diet was a five-day, low-carbohydrate, low-protein, plant-derived diet, which gave participants 600 calories on day 1 and then 300 calories on days 2, 3, 4, and 5.
After the five days, the participants could eat anything they wanted.
This restricted diet led to some pretty impressive numbers, and it reduced blood sugar by 18.6 percent.
They also found a reduction in IGF-1 by 30.3 (an inflammatory marker) and an increase of activated CD8+ T cells— all biomarkers that the immune system is working great.
The researchers deduced that the calorie restriction caused a “metabolic shock” that led to an activated immune system that could INCREASE antitumor activity.
While this is an early and very short study, it still showed many good changes in the health of the participants.
There are other ways to try intermittent fasting:
- You can simply eat every other day.
- You can also pick one day of the week (like Sunday or Friday) and not eat that day.
There’s also a version in which you cut back on the time you spend eating every day. All you do is set aside a certain part of the time where you eat and a certain part where you don’t. Most people eat between 14 and 16 hours a day, but if you can drop it to 10 , then this will work for you.
P.S. Researchers have discovered that intermittent fasting could also pump the brakes on one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. Click here to find out more.
