Symptom Discovered in 70% of Ovarian Cancer Patients

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as a “silent disease.”

We’ve heard for decades that there’s no way to know if you have this horrible cancer.

But now, it appears, that simply isn’t true.

A group of researchers identified that 70 percent of patients reported this symptom before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Here’s what to look out for.

According to a new study in journal Obstetrics & Gynecology, more than 70 percent of women who were later diagnosed with ovarian cancer had stomach or pelvic pain in the months leading up to their diagnosis.

The study, which looked at 419 women, found that women not only reported stomach or pelvic pain, but they also complained of fullness in their stomach, and some reported abnormal vaginal bleeding, urinary symptoms, or other stomach symptoms.

The problem with these symptoms, however, is that the list of possible reasons WHY these are happening is incredibly long.

As I always say, you sometimes have to push your doctor to do more testing if you are worried.

When should you ask for further tests?

  • If you have a family history of ovarian cancer.
  • You’re taking hormone therapy after menopause.
  • You‘re overweight.
  • You’re worried.

The reason I’ve specified to insist on tests if you’re worried is for two reasons.

First, having a test (usually a simple ultrasound) is non-invasive and can help assure you nothing is wrong.

The second reason is intuition. It’s often dismissed, but intuition can be a powerful tool. I’ve had a lot of patients tell me they didn’t know what it was, but they felt like something was going on. And they were usually right.

The bottom line is, you know your body more than anyone. If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor about getting screened for ovarian cancer.

P.S. It’s time to talk about the scary truth behind hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Click here to find out more.
