Surprising Supplement AMPLIFIES Exercise AND Memory!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

If you were to ask most folks why they exercise, you’d probably hear a lot about losing weight or improving heart and cardiovascular health.

But I’m betting most people wouldn’t say they do it for their brain health.

It’s been almost twenty years since a group of researchers first discovered that exercising stimulates your brain to create neurons (brain cells), but people still seem to be in the dark about this fact.

Every time you put on your walking shoes and head out the door, you boost your brain power, as well as help your heart, improve your blood sugar, and give your mood a HUGE boost.

And now researchers have discovered that this brain-boosting mineral could AMPLIFY your exercise efforts even more.

A recent study in the journal Cell Metabolism found that the chemical element selenium is essential for growing new brain cells.

Researchers examined mice exercising and noticed an increase in a certain protein called selenoprotein P (SEPP1) which contains selenium.

They found that the SEPP1 protein travels to the brain after exercise and kicks off brain cell growth.

After just two weeks, the number of neural precursor cells (essentially “baby” brain cells) DOUBLED in certain parts of the mice’s brains.

Additional research showed that when seniors were given selenium, their verbal fluency and other brain functions improve dramatically.

SEPP1 not only transports selenium to the brain, but it also acts as a powerful antioxidant throughout your body and brain.

You can get more selenium by eating more Brazil nuts, grains, and some beans. But it’s probably best to supplement with this important mineral— so much of the soil that grows our food has been depleted and has almost no selenium.

If you’re looking to increase brain cells, here are some more tips for you.

Dr. Scott’s Brain-Boosting Program

  • Increase protein. If you want a healthy brain, protein is your best friend. It helps boost all the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) needed for good function.
  • Eat good fats. The human brain is nearly 60 percent fat, which should tell you how important fat is to the brain. Essential fatty acids like fish oil are absolutely vital for brain function— and would probably win the “most needed nutrient for the brain” if there were a contest!
  • B vitamins. Every function in your brain requires B vitamins. You probably want to supplement these vitamins too.
  • Herbal support. I like curcumin and bacopa for good brain support.
