Common Drink TRIGGERS Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a terrifying disease to live with for a lot of reasons, including the uncertainty that comes with it.
You see, folks with MS have a deterioration of the myelin (or “insulation”) of nerve cells. Myelin helps nerves to send impulses fast. Without it, nerves are herky-jerky and unreliable. This is why people with MS have difficulty talking, swallowing, and moving.
It’s been known for a long time that the immune system in people with MS attacks myelin and destroys it. But why the immune system attacked the myelin was a mystery.
Now, researchers have discovered that this common drink TRIGGERS myelin deterioration, exacerbating multiple sclerosis symptoms.
And it may be sitting in your fridge right now.
Many folks with MS say that they feel worse when they eat yogurt, cottage cheese… or any dairy product.
And now there may be science to back it up.
Dr. Stefanie Kürten from the Institute of Anatomy at University Hospital Bonn Germany decided to find out if milk is bad for people with MS.
Dr. Kürten started studying this question in 2018. She injected mice with different compounds from milk and then observed what happened in their brains.
She and her collaborators found that the milk protein called casein was damaging to the brains of the mice.
Dr. Kürten’s team found that injecting mice with casein caused the immune system to attack the myelin. It appears that the proteins on the outside of casein look a lot like the proteins on the outside of myelin – so the immune system “cross-reacts” whenever someone is consuming milk products and attacks the myelin.
I’ve always believed folks with MS complaining that dairy products made their symptoms worse. The answer is simple: avoid milk products if you have MS.
P.S. The summer heat is descending on us FAST… and it’s the perfect time to try this mysterious therapy to FREEZE OUT your symptoms.
