“Food Reboot” HALTS Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
If you or someone you love suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), you already know how the disease can turn your life upside down.
The stiffness and mobility problems slowly strip away your independence… and leave you in pain.
Talk to your mainstream doc and he’ll just shrug their shoulders – they have nothing to offer you but more pills and therapies.
But what if I told you that there was something that could improve your symptoms almost overnight?
I’m talking about a “food restart” that HALTS your multiple sclerosis symptoms.
And you’ll be amazed when you hear what it is.
The answer is the ketogenic diet.
If you’re not familiar with the ketogenic diet, it’s a food plan that centers on burning fat instead of sugar for energy.
Most people don’t know this, but sugar isn’t your only energy source. Your body also needs specific fats called ketones for energy.
In fact, some parts of your body, like your heart and your brain, prefer burning ketones over sugars.
And a new study found that this diet could especially benefit folks with MS.
Researchers, who presented their study at the American Academy of Neurology’s 74th Annual Meeting, decided to test whether a ketogenic diet could improve the symptoms of people with multiple sclerosis.
The study team found people with MS who were on a ketogenic diet had:
- less fatigue,
- less depression,
- and an improved quality of life,
When the researchers collected blood samples from each group, they found the ketone-producing group had less inflammation than the participants who ate a standard diet.
The keto folks also reported greater mobility and even performed better on a walking test than those who didn’t change their diet.
People on a ketogenic diet avoid most carbohydrates and eat meat, fish, eggs, heavy cream, butter, oils, and non-starchy vegetables like pea pods, carrots, broccoli, and peppers.
I’m the first to tell you that eating a ketogenic diet can be hard. Sugar and carbohydrate cravings are hard to kick. But getting rid of sugar and the foods that act like sugar can do wonders for your body and brain.
P.S. Did you know that this common drink could TRIGGER your MS symptoms? Find out what it is right here.
