Vitamin Secret STOPS the Spread of Cancer?

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Your body has many protections against cancer.

One of the safeguards you may be unaware of is the lining of your organs.

There is a protective layer surrounding your organs called the mesothelium. And one of its jobs is to keep cancer cells from invading.

Your heart has a mesothelial protective layer.

Your lungs have a mesothelial protective layer…

Since this layer defends your body against cancer cells, it’s clear why you’ll want to keep it strong. Well, recent research discovered a vitamin secret that helps protect this protective layer!

Thing is, most people aren’t getting enough…

Let’s open the curtains for our sunshine vitamin: Vitamin D.

You probably already know that natural vitamin D is created by our bodies when sunlight strikes our skin.

Vitamin D is on my everyone-should-be-taking-this-pill list. That is because most of us spend much of our lives indoors, wear sunscreen when we go outside, and generally avoid the sun.

The new study, published in the journal Matrix Biology, found that vitamin D helps maintain and repair the mesothelial cell layer that helps keep out cancer cells.

While the researchers found vitamin D effective in the fight to prevent ovarian cancer from spreading, this same mechanism can be applied to other cancers wanting to spread throughout the body.

Here is how you make sure you are getting enough Vitamin D:

Dr. Scott’s Guide to Getting Enough Vitamin D

  • Start at your doctor’s office and have them run a blood test for you. This will give you an idea of your levels. And pay attention to what time of year it is: most people’s Vitamin D levels are lowest after a long winter and highest in the summer.
  • Get enough sun. There is a fine balance between getting enough sun and getting too much. I don’t believe you only need 15 minutes of sun exposure a day–most of us need much more. Just make sure to not burn your skin.
  • Supplement. Not all your vitamins need to come from a pill, but vitamin D is one you should take daily, especially in winter.

P.S. When your body is missing a nutrient, it sends up a little “red flag” to let you know when something is wrong. Now a new study has a “red flag” for vitamin D deficiency that you should be on the lookout for. You can’t afford to miss it. Click here for what you need to know.
