[WARNING] Post-Surgery Painkiller PROBLEM

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Do you know what the rest of the world DOESN’T do after minor or even moderate surgeries?

They don’t dope patients up on heavy-duty opioids.

But unfortunately, we can’t say the same here in America.

And it’s no real mystery why.

For years, drug reps distracted docs with lavish lunches while whispering two devastating pieces of misinformation into their ears.

The docs were told…

  1. Opioid painkillers are the perfect solution for everything from arthritis aches to post-surgery pain.
  2. There’s no need to worry because opioids aren’t addictive.

But there are (at least) two MAJOR problems with the drug rep’s persistent messages. And when you know what they are you can avoid falling into the opioid trap too.

The first problem is that in most cases, opioid painkillers AREN’T any more effective than over-the-counter medications. (More on that in just a moment.)

And second, opioids are so addictive that 100,000 people leave the earth every year because they overdose on them.

Luckily, researchers finally began to question the use of opioids for every little ache and pain. In fact, a new study published in the journal The Lancet focuses on comparing the effectiveness of opioids versus over-the-counter medications.

After reviewing 47 studies in a meta-analysis, the research team concluded that using opioids after mild to moderate surgery was no more effective than over-the-counter medications.

Even worse, people who took the opioids were much more likely to have troubling side effects such as vomiting, nausea, dizziness, and constipation.

If you’re going to have minor to moderate surgery yourself, consider taking over-the-counter medications instead of risky opioids. I also suggest you eat an anti-inflammatory diet to head off aches and pains.

That means eliminating…

  • Added sugars
  • Vegetable oils
  • Ultra-processed foods

But don’t stop there.

Good old-fashioned ice and rest are often very effective when recovering from a specific injury or mild surgery. And with your surgeon’s thumbs up, consider taking natural anti-inflammatories such as fish oil and turmeric as well.

We’ve learned from the opioid crisis that we can never tell who will become addicted. We’re ALL at risk. The folks who have overdosed during this epidemic have come from all walks of life. Everyone from suburban homemakers to doctors have been affected.

Any one of us could be next. So it’s best to avoid taking opioids unless you really need them.

PS: One surgery in particular has been linked to a shocking increase in opioid addiction. Find out what it is and the specific steps you can take to avoid becoming a victim right here.
