“Bad Habit” Delivers BIG Benefits to Folks Over 40
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
I get it. When you’re a senior, it can feel like you’re walking on eggshells when it comes to your health.
Screaming headlines insist you’re going to lose your eyesight, your capacity to walk, and even your ability to think straight. This all makes relaxing and having some fun seem downright impossible.
After all, everything you WANT to do will supposedly harm your health. Yet, when you comply, it can still feel like no matter what move you make, everything is going downhill anyway.
But I’m here today to tell you that’s NOT true. You can live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment of your golden years. You’re NOT stuck in a downward spiral.
In fact, there’s one enjoyable activity in particular that delivers BIG benefits for those of us who are more mature that’s NOT good for the younger folks.
Trust me, if you’re over the age of 40, you’re going to want to know about this.
I’m talking about drinking alcohol.
Because it turns out that drinking in moderation can be good for people over the age of 40. But the same can’t be said for the younger folks.
The new study published in the journal The Lancet confirmed that in folks over 40, one or two alcoholic drinks a day are linked to a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
The research drew on health records from 204 countries. After crunching a massive amount of data, the scientists concluded that having a couple drinks a day was associated with better heart disease outcomes and blood sugar control.
There were no health benefits for the under-40 crowd for one simple reason… accidents.
Car wrecks and other injuries are far more common in younger people who drink.
In other words, irresponsible drinking erased all potential health benefits.
I guess we do really DO get wiser as we get older. We’re less likely to hop in a car, jump off a bridge, or get in a fight after we drink a few. And our health is better for it.
This study isn’t a free pass to drink as much as you want, of course. Moderation is still key. But you don’t have to worry about whether an occasional drink will harm you.
It won’t. And in fact, it could be helping your health.
I’ll drink to that!
P.S. Everyone knows overdoing alcohol is a threat to your liver health. But it turns out indulging in another popular beverage most folks think is harmless could lead to liver damage. Click here for all the disturbing details.
