Gut Bug Goblin ATTACKS Your Immune Cells [Fight BACK!]

We’ve FINALLY learned how vital it is to care for our gut bugs or microbiome over the last few years.

Doctors have understood for hundreds of years that various bacteria call our gut home. But we failed to appreciate their TRUE importance.

Over time, we learned that the microbiome helps us digest food to produce vitamins. But now scientists have discovered our gut bugs do MUCH more than just aid digestion.

In fact, our belly bugs communicate with our bodies. And those same bacteria even have some degree of control over many of our systems!

For example, how much inflammation we have in our bodies largely depends on our microbiome. Plus, how stressed we feel and what mood we’re in can also be influenced by those same gut bugs.

The balance of bacteria in our microbiome even has a lot to say about how well (or poorly) we manage our blood sugar.

But there’s one thing that many of us do that radically changes our microbiomes for the worse…

It turns out that eating too much sugar can wreak havoc on the bacteria in your belly.

Regular readers know I’m not a big fan of the white stuff. Sugar harms our health in so many ways. And now we can add yet another to the list.

Researchers recently published a study in the journal Cell that linked eating sugar to losing critical immune cells.

About 70 percent of your immune system resides in your gut. And for a good reason. After all, your gut is where you’re most likely to encounter a foreign invader.

Viruses, fungi, and bacteria can hitch a ride inside your gut on the food you eat. So your body has its defense system set up to most efficiently deal with anything that might attack it this way.

The researchers found that eating sugar can change the balance of bacteria in your microbiome from those that SUPPORT the immune system to those that HARM it.

More specifically, the sugar promotes the growth of a bacterium called Faecalibaculum rodentium that displaces other healthy segmented filamentous bacteria (or SFB). Plus, even worse, it triggers unhealthy inflammation in the gut.

The researchers believe this imbalance is why eating sugar has been linked to a depressed immune system and diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s.

Do your best to limit the added sugars in your diet. Prepare as many foods from scratch as possible to control what goes into them. And when you can’t avoid prepared foods, check the nutrition labels for hidden added sugars.

Your microbiome… and your body… will thank you for it.

P.S. There are several simple things you can do to support your gut health and build up your microbiome. Check out my easy-to-follow list right here.
