Dangerous Vitamin Deficiency Sends Folks to An Early GRAVE

If you’ve been a loyal reader for a while now you’re probably already taking steps to ensure your health is in tip-top shape.

You do your best to eat well…

You stay hydrated…

You, hopefully, get in some regular exercise…

And maybe you even take a multivitamin…

While I would certainly give you an A for effort, there’s still something that could be sending you to an EARLY GRAVE.

It’s a vitamin deficiency – that you may have even if you DO take a daily multivitamin.

You’ve probably heard that a daily 15-minute sun session is all you need to get enough vitamin D.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news… But that’s just bunk.

How do I know?

Because studies show that at least 35 percent of US adults have a vitamin D deficiency.

(A conservative estimate, no doubt.)

A precursor to vitamin D lives in our skin. When sunlight hits it, the precursor transforms into active vitamin D.

But our risk for vitamin D deficiency gets worse as we age. There are a couple of reasons why that’s true.

  • First, we tend to spend less time outside.
  • Second, our bodies become less efficient at transforming sunlight into active vitamin D.

There’s a good chance you’re deficient in vitamin D simply due to where you live. Most places don’t get enough sunlight, especially during the winter months.

Low D isn’t just an inconvenience, either. It could quite literally be a matter of LIFE or DEATH, as new research highlights.

The recent study published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine found that insufficient vitamin D was a risk factor for all-cause mortality.

In other words, death from any cause.

Which, honestly, ISN’T all that surprising when you consider we ALREADY know that a lack of this vital vitamin plays in heart disease, diabetes, cancer, brain problems, osteoporosis, and more.

The researchers found that people with less than 25nmol/L (a measurement of vitamin D levels) were much more likely to die from any cause.

The reason why is simple. Vitamin D is a superhero vitamin that wears many hats.

The vitamin is essential for:

  • muscle and bone strength
  • skin health
  • blood-sugar control
  • heart health
  • brain health
  • immune health

In other words, getting enough vitamin D is CRITICAL for your overall health.

So let me show you how to do just that.

  • Get a blood test. Ask your doctor to check your vitamin D levels. Remember that D tends to be at its lowest after a long winter and highest in the summer.
  • Get enough sun. There’s a delicate balance between getting enough sun and getting too much. I don’t believe you only need 15 minutes of sun exposure a day–most of us need much more. Just make sure to not burn your skin.
  • Try a supplement. Not all your vitamins need to come from a pill, but vitamin D is one you should take daily, especially in winter.

P.S. Wondering if YOU’RE D deficient? A recent study uncovered a surprising “red flag” for this vitamin deficiency that you should be on the lookout for. Does your eye do THIS?
