Common Weed Killer Causes IBD?

It always puzzles me how anyone thinks we can spray toxic chemicals on our crops and NOT have them affect our health!

Because despite what food manufacturers may claim, chemical residues from pesticides and herbicides show up on (and IN) the conventionally grown food we eat. And research makes it clear that these creepy chemicals trigger a multitude of health problems.

And now a new study published in the journal Nature may have just uncovered the cause of your gut issues…

It zeroed in on a common weed killer as a potential trigger for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Over a million people in the United States alone have been diagnosed with some form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. And that number is steadily rising.

We’ve known for a long time that the underlying cause of IBD is inflammation (heck, it’s in the disease’s name!). But what we didn’t know was what was causing the inflammation. So a group of researchers decided to find out.

WThe scientists began zeroing in on potential culprit molecules. And a common herbicide emerged as a likely candidate.

Propyzamide is sprayed on sports fields and around fruit and vegetable crops to kill weeds. And the research revealed the chemical interferes with a part of the gut cell wall called an aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR).

AHRs usually suppress inflammation. But propyzamide blocks the receptors. This results in your gut becoming irritated and inflamed.

In other words, propyzamide could be contributing to the dramatic rise in IBD.

Of course, this is FAR from the first time these kinds of chemicals have been found to harm our health. Earlier research has already linked certain herbicides and pesticides to a higher risk of cancer and reproductive, gut, brain, skin, respiratory, and endocrine problems.

In fact, there’s a long list of chemicals that were once believed to be safe to spray on food, but now we know better. (For example, DDT was one of the first pesticides to be banned in the United States in the 1970s because it accumulates in the environment and can be toxic.)

Now atrazine, flupyradifurone, hexachlorobenzene, glyphosate, methomyl, and rotenone have all been flagged as potentially toxic by the World Health Organization. And yet we still use some of them in the United States.

The only way to reduce your exposure to propyzamide and the rest of these creepy chemicals is to avoid foods sprayed with them. That means your best bet is to eat organically grown food whenever possible.

P.S. World-class researchers have discovered that a group of pesticides could be behind Parkinson’s. Avoiding them may be the key to NEVER developing this devastating disease. I’ve got all the details right here.
