The BENEFITS of Ringing in New Year's with a Drink?!
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
As you get ready to ring in the New Year tonight, you might feel conflicted about whether to indulge in some alcohol this evening.
On the one hand, it’s a time-honored tradition to toast the New Year with a glass of wine or champagne as the clock strikes midnight. But on the other, should you give in to a “bad habit”?
Well, I’ve got some fantastic news.
You can go ahead and down that glass GUILT-FREE.
In fact, when done the right way, drinking alcohol can deliver BIG benefits for those of us who are a bit more mature.
If you’re over the age of 40, you’re going to LOVE this news.
It turns out that drinking in moderation can be a HEALTHY habit for people over 40.
(Sorry, under 40s… the same doesn’t appear true for you.)
A study published in the journal The Lancet found that when you’re over 40, one or two alcoholic drinks a day are linked to a lower risk of…
- heart disease
- stroke
- diabetes
The massive study crunched data drawn from health records in 204 countries. And after carefully analyzing all the numbers, researchers found that folks who indulged in a couple of drinks a day had better heart disease outcomes and blood sugar control.
There were no health benefits for those under 40 for one simple reason… accidents. Car wrecks and other injuries are far more common in younger people who drink.
In other words, irresponsible drinking erased all potential health benefits.
We really DO get wiser as we get older. We’re less likely to hop in a car or get in a fight after we drink a few. And our health is better for it.
This study isn’t a free pass to drink as much as you want, of course. As always, moderation is still key. But you don’t have to worry about whether an occasional drink will harm you.
It won’t. And in fact, it could be helping your health.
So feel free to go ahead and ring in the New Year with a drink or two tonight.
P.S. OVERDOING alcohol is a threat to your liver health. But indulging in another popular beverage most folks think is harmless could ALSO lead to liver damage. Click here for all the disturbing details.
