Drug Company FAILS to Respond to Heartburn Drug Risk

Type the word “Zantac” into any search engine, and the first thing likely to come up is “Zantac lawsuit.”

And the reason WHY people are suing the drug’s maker, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), is a twisted tale that’ll turn your stomach…

The drug company allegedly took a page straight out of big tobacco’s playbook. And as a result, it could have put hundreds of thousands of folks in harm’s way.

Experts say taking Zantac (a stomach acid blocker) is associated with increased cancer risk. That alone is a shock for anyone who has taken the drug.

GSK has downplayed the risk. The drug company has tried to claim there’s no “consistent and reliable evidence” that Zantac causes cancer. But the next part of the story is where things REALLY go off the rails.

According to reporting in Bloomberg Businessweek, GSK KNEW about the association between Zantac and increased cancer risk for 40 years!

Independent researchers AND its own scientists warned GSK that the drug contained a cancer-linked impurity called N-nitroso dimethylamine.

That impurity increased as the drug sat on the shelf. And any exposure to heat produces even MORE of the probable human carcinogen.

The scientists reportedly brought the storage problem up to GSK’s leaders more than once. But the company declined to change its storage or distribution procedures.

Instead, they kept quiet about the link, continued to sell their cash-cow drug, and raked in billions in sales. Now GSK is facing thousands of lawsuits.

The truth is, all those smiling, happy people in drug ads hide a dark reality. Because, at the end of the day, the number one goal of drug companies is to make as much money as possible.

And perhaps the WORST part of this disturbing story is that it was unnecessary. Acid-blocking drugs, or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), are on my “never take” list for a reason.

(Well, several reasons, in fact.)

PPIs stop stomach acid production, which is ESSENTIAL to your body… especially as you age. Without enough stomach acid, you can’t effectively digest your food or absorb critical nutrients such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, and B vitamins.

Acid blockers can also harm your microbiome and increase the risk of heart disease, pneumonia, irritable bowel disease, and fractures.

For most folks, the overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut is responsible for their heartburn. And a steady diet of too many simple sugars feeds these harmful bugs.

So, the easiest (and safest) way to rid yourself of heartburn is to cut back on simple sugars and take a good probiotic.
