Risk of Stroke SURGES 50% Worldwide?!

It’s NOT good news.

A recent report by the World Health Organization (WHO), confirmed that the chance of having a stroke has skyrocketed by a whopping 50 percent in the last twenty years.

According to the WHO, that means your stroke risk is now about one in four.

Next time you’re in a crowd, look around. Twenty-five percent of the people you see are likely to have a stroke in their lifetime.

But you don’t have to be one of them.

A stroke occurs when blood flow in the brain is blocked. There are two ways this happens.

The first is called an ischemic stroke. Similar to a heart attack, it sometimes blocks the blood flow in the brain. The second is a hemorrhagic stroke in which a blood vessel INSIDE the brain breaks and causes bleeding.

The reason for the dramatic increase in both of these is as simple as it is complex. Or, as I like to put it, it’s easy to say, but not so easy to fix.

In fact, I can boil it down to a single word: Lifestyle.

In other words, it’s the things we CAN change, including smoking, stress, lack of exercise, a diet of processed foods, being overmedicated, and excessive alcohol consumption.

And those lifestyle choices, of course, lead directly to the diseases that trigger strokes, including high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes.

But trust me, I get it. You can’t just flip the switch and turn off a lifetime of habits. And trying to do so just sets you up for failure.

The better approach is more gradual, taking one small step at a time. Every change will dial down your risk even further. And I have some proven effective stroke prevention tips to kick those changes off.

Start by targeting INFLAMMATION. It’s at the root of many diseases, including stroke. So taking steps to reduce your levels can slash your risk.

Avoid inflammation-inducing sugar and ultra-processed foods. And ditch the inflammatory vegetable oils. Switch to coconut, olive, or avocado oils or butter instead.

Next, focus on EXERCISE. It really IS the best medicine. It’s the number one change you can make to improve your health. And that includes reducing stroke risk.

If you don’t already exercise, start by walking as much as you can. If you don’t already exercise, start walking. Work up to a half-hour a day.

Remember, ANY movement counts towards your exercise goals (like doing the chores), and you don’t have to do it all at once. Simply getting up and moving around for five minutes every hour can make a measurable dent in your risk.

And if you’re struggling with mobility issues, you can still exercise. In fact, it can IMPROVE your mobility over time. Consider something like chair yoga, hand weights, or a foot bike.

Finally, boost your levels of several critical NUTRIENTS.

  • Green teais packed full of polyphenols and other good nutrients that help stabilize blood vessels. Try starting each day with a cup.
  • Vitamin C is often overlooked because it’s so well-known we assume we get enough. But we need plenty of vitamin C to make our blood vessels tougher and less likely to break.
  • Vitamin D has been studied for stroke prevention. One study found that folks with low vitamin D levels are likelier to have an ischemic stroke.

Join me in REFUSING to become a stroke statistic by lowering your risk one step at a time.
