Nature's Way to CRUSH Urinary Tract Infections
Ladies, urinary tract infections (UTIs) aren’t just a young girl’s problem. In fact, 10 percent of women over 65 get one YEARLY.
But it gets worse. That number TRIPLES for women over 85.
And guys, you’re not off the hook either. By the time men pass 80, they too, have a 10 percent chance of getting one of these uncomfortable infections every year.
There are several reasons WHY the risk of UTIs rises with age (plus a newly confirmed NATURAL solution).
One of the main reasons urinary tract infections become frequent as you age is that, over time, your immune system becomes less efficient.
As a result, your body has a harder time fighting off bacteria that it may have simply shrugged off in the past.
Plus, your skin, which serves as a natural barrier against invading bugs, becomes thinner and less protective as you age. So more bacteria manage to break through.
And then there’s the blood-sugar factor. Diabetes and pre-diabetes are more common in older adults. These conditions lead to “sweeter” urine creating the perfect environment for growing bacteria.
But those frequent UTIs are just the tip of the iceberg.
These infections are typically treated with antibiotics. And as a Living Well Daily reader, you likely already KNOW that frequent antibiotic use can lead to DRUG RESISTANT bacteria and superbug infections.
That makes finding ALTERNATIVES to drugs a top priority.
The debate over using cranberry to naturally ward off and treat UTIs has raged for YEARS.
Several studies have found that cranberry products can reduce symptoms and may reduce the number of UTIs a woman gets. While other research claims to refute those findings.
But a new review published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews should FINALLY put the debate to rest.
In it, the researchers confirm that cranberries can be used as an alternative to drugs for treating or preventing urinary tract infections.
To understand WHY this review is a game changer, you’ll need to know a bit about the Cochrane reviews.
A team of highly qualified experts conducts each review, meticulously analyzing the existing studies. The scientists who do this research NEVER get paid. They do the work to contribute to our scientific understanding and to increase their status in the research community.
The majority of Cochrane reviews focus on prescription drugs. And with their stringent standards, most teams conclude that the drug being reviewed doesn’t work.
In the end, there are very few positive reviews. So, when a Cochrane review concludes something WORKS, we should all sit up and take notice.
The Cochrane review on cranberries and urinary tract infections concluded the following:
“These data support the use of cranberry products to reduce the risk of symptomatic, culture-verified UTIs in women with recurrent UTIs, in children, and in people susceptible to UTIs following interventions.”
In other words, cranberries WORK for UTIs.
Cranberry products thwart UTIs by preventing bacteria from attaching to the wall of the bladder. So it’s a good idea to make drinking unsweetened cranberry juice or taking a cranberry supplement part of your regular routine.
If you have an active infection, consider increasing your dose or taking a D-mannose supplement (the active ingredient in cranberries).
P.S. Antibiotic resistance isn’t the only issue with using these drugs to treat repeated UTIs. Despite being the most common mainstream solution, antibiotics could make your situation MUCH worse for a whole different reason.
