The "Apple A Day" Hack for Healthy Aging
You know what they say about eating an apple a day.
Well, it turns out this age-old advice may not JUST help you steer clear of the doctor’s office…
If you’re a senior, that daily apple hack has ANOTHER welcome benefit that could send your quality of life soaring.
It may even SAVE it. Here’s how…
New research confirms an apple a day helps fight off one of the most devastating aspects of aging. And that’s frailty.
This condition plagues seniors, stealing away their independence and quality of life. And we don’t talk about it NEARLY enough.
When frailty sets in, even minor tasks can become monumental. Eventually, you may even need help with everyday things like buttoning your shirt, eating, and getting around your home.
Even worse, it’s a recipe for a shorter, more painful life.
Frailty puts you at a higher risk for…
- falls
- broken bones
- disability
- hospitalizations
- premature death
Seniors are typically told to stay active, maintain muscle mass, work on their balance, and ensure they eat enough protein to avoid the condition.
All of that’s STILL excellent advice. But it turns out there’s something critical missing from this list. And that’s flavonols.
Flavonols are phytochemical compounds with a variety of health benefits. They’re found naturally in many fruits and vegetables.
And now new research reveals these compounds could send your frailty risk PLUMMETING.
According to a new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, getting 10 milligrams or more of flavonols per day was associated with a 20 percent drop in the risk for frailty.
Quercetin was the nutrient MOST strongly correlated with that risk reduction. And apples are LOADED with around 4.4 mg of quercetin alone.
You’ll find a variety of frailty-fighting flavonols in apples, leafy green vegetables, onions, broccoli, and berries. Citrus fruits, onions, parsley, sage, tea, and red wine are excellent sources of quercetin specifically.
And, of course, supplements are available as well.
P.S. Losing some strength is a natural part of aging. But if you develop the dreaded “senior shuffle,” it could also mean something far MORE sinister than just a loss of mobility is looming over the horizon. CLICK HERE for the scoop.
