FAT Solution Linked to Healthier Weight (WEIRD)
It sneaks up on you…
And then, sometime around 50, your pants begin to feel a bit tighter, and your upper arms start to look a little looser.
Then you notice the numbers on the bathroom scale are slowly creeping up.
Age-related weight gain causes most of us to pack on an additional pound or two every year.
And with that gain comes a rising risk for conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and chronic inflammation.
But scientists have uncovered a solution that can put the BRAKES on age-related weight gain and SLASH your risks.
It’s one of life’s greatest (and most annoying) mysteries.
Gaining weight is as easy as pie. Yet LOSING it can feel next to impossible.
But new research reveals what could turn out to be the BEST solution of all. And that’s one that allows you to get off the weight-loss merry-go-round and sidestep that cycle altogether.
This method could HALT age-related weight gain and allow you to simply MAINTAIN a healthy weight for the rest of your years.
The new study published in the journal Nature Communications found that encouraging the formation of “beige fat” could be the key to staying slim and trim.
Never heard of it? Join the club… most folks haven’t.
There are two types of fat in our bodies you may have heard of…
- white adipose tissue (WAT) STORES energy from excess calorie intake
- brown adipose tissue (BAT) BURNS calories to maintain body temps in mammals like humans
At one time, WAT and BAT were the only types of fat scientists thought existed. But more recently, they discovered a subset of WAT called beige fat.
Beige fat comes from the same precursors as white BUT has the same energy-burning capabilities as brown. And it can reduce blood sugar and the fatty acids that harden arteries and cause heart disease.
You can BOOST your beige fat levels and activity with a few lifestyle tweaks.
- Cold exposure: Briefly exposing your body to cold temperatures can encourage the conversion of more white fat into beige. You can try cold showers, cooler settings on the thermostat, ice packs, or ice baths. Just be sure to check with your doc first, as cold temps might not be suitable for specific health conditions.
- Exercise: Combining aerobic activity that raises your heart rate (like dancing, swimming laps, or walking swiftly) and strength training (like using resistance bands, doing wall push-ups, or sit-to- stands) boosts both brown and beige fat activity and fights weight gain.
- Adequate Sleep: Sleep is essential for good health, including metabolic function. Not getting enough sleep reduces brown and beige fat activity. Aim for seven to nine hours of uninterrupted, quality sleep per night.
- Healthy Diet: Certain nutrients can affect beige fat development and function. Eat more lean proteins, healthy fats, fruits, and veggies. Green tea, capsaicin, and resveratrol (found in red grapes and berries) promote brown and beige fat creation.
- Reduce Stress: Stress triggers the release of inflammatory IL-6, which can affect your body’s ability to process insulin leading to insulin resistance and weight gain. Meditation, yoga, deep breathing, and relaxing hobbies can reduce stress.
Don’t let age-related weight gain keep you stuck on the gain-lose merry-go-round. Make a move to boost your beige fat levels starting TODAY.
