"Sneaky Exercise" is the Workout You’ve ALWAYS Wanted

Most folks have an emotional reaction to the word exercise.

Unfortunately, that emotion is often LOATHING… accompanied by visions of sweat and pain.

But it doesn’t HAVE to be that way. Because as unlikely as it sounds, I have a hack that can change how you feel about “working out.”

And THAT could change EVERYTHING

The truth is a formal “workout” isn’t necessary. In fact, my simple “Sneaky Exercise” hack delivers the benefits of exercise WITHOUT the dreaded sweat and pain.

Heck, it doesn’t feel like exercise at all.

The trick is simple. You look for opportunities to slip in extra movement throughout your day so that you hardly even notice you’re getting exercise.

  • Stretching: You likely don’t think of stretching as beneficial. But it most certainly is. And as we grow older, it’s an excellent way to loosen up and remind our bodies that they can still move in many different ways. Try it first thing in the morning.
  • Take the scenic route:  Try taking a new “long way” home whenever you’re out walking or biking. Choose the stairs instead of the elevator whenever feasible. Grab your bike to run errands in the neighborhood instead of driving. And when you drive, park the car a block or two away from your destination and walk the rest of the way.
  • “Sitercise”: When you are sitting you don’t have to JUST sit. Do some seated exercises instead. Try doing leg raises. Get some hand weights and do bicep curls. Or get a foot bike that fits in front of the couch or under your desk. Need some more ideas? Try searching for “chair exercises” on YouTube.
  • Walk and talk: When chatting with someone, try doing it while walking. This works for phone conversations and in-person meetings (as long as whoever you’re meeting with is game).
  • Housework: Good news. Doing laundry, vacuuming, washing windows, doing dishes, and all that other not-so-fun stuff you have to do around the house ALSO counts as exercise. So go ahead and tackle those tasks you’ve been avoiding. At the end of the day, you’ll feel accomplished, AND you will have “worked out.”
  • “Pay” for TV time: When watching television, “pay” for it by riding a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill. Too distracted by moving DURING the show? Save your moves for commercial breaks. You can dance around the dining room table, hula hoop, or do jumping jacks. Just keep moving until the show starts again.

Not everyone is cut out for formal exercise routines or visits to the gym. If that’s you, don’t sweat it. Use my “Sneaky Exercise” routine to get all the benefits you want without the workout.
