“Magical Mineral” Trick SLASHES Heart Risk
Most folks are familiar with atherosclerosis. It’s a condition that leads to the blood vessels around the heart to become gunked up with plaques.
If those vessels become too clogged, it can cause a heart attack.
However, many people have NOT heard of another common blood vessel disease called peripheral arterial disease or PAD. It, too, raises your risk of heart attacks and strokes.
PAD affects 1 in 20 Americans over 50. But new research has revealed a surprising way to potentially SLASH your risk.
And it’s something you should be getting anyway.
PAD occurs when the veins that carry blood from the heart to the legs get narrowed or blocked.
Typically, it’s caused by the same process that creates fatty plaque buildup around the heart.
People with PAD have leg pain (sometimes extreme) when they walk, do chores, or exercise.
Many folks merely chalk the pain up to “poor circulation” or the natural consequences of aging.
But that’s not just a bad idea.
It could be a DEADLY one.
You see, plaque buildup in the peripheral veins is the underlying cause. And that puts people at an increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
So, it’s essential to detect and treat PAD at an early stage. Of course, avoiding developing it in the first place is the BEST plan.
That’s where a new study published in the online journal PLOS ONE comes in. It uncovered a strong association between how much of the common mineral magnesium people get and PAD.
The study focused on 9,970 people, categorizing them by their magnesium intake into four groups: very low, low, medium, and high.
The people with the lowest levels of magnesium intake were a stunning 56 percent MORE likely to have PAD.
That’s a HUGE rise in risk for a mineral that’s super easy to get.
Magnesium isn’t just helpful for blood flow either. The mineral also helps reduce inflammation and prevent calcium from creating hard deposits in atherosclerotic plaques (both in the legs and heart).
You can eat more spinach, avocados, leafy vegetables, bananas, nuts, and even dark chocolate to raise your magnesium levels.
Supplements are available as well.
P.S. Research has uncovered a “Hit the Hay” habit that could nearly DOUBLE your risk of developing painful… and dangerous… PAD.
