Bounce Back from Surgery FAST
Most people walk into surgery without much preparation.
Your surgeon might tell you to avoid certain meds or supplements before your operation.
Or, if you have a progressive doctor, he might suggest certain supplements to speed healing afterward.
But if you have a scheduled surgery in your future, new research reveals precisely what you can do to bounce back FAST.
If you’ve ever had a major operation, you know they want to get you on your feet soon after surgery. And a new study confirms walking is indeed the key to a quick recovery.
But it revealed that the walking you do BEFORE you ever set foot in the hospital is JUST as critical to bouncing back AFTER surgery.
According to researchers, focusing on taking 7,500 daily steps leading up to surgery could significantly impact on how well you recover.
Folks who stuck to this practice had 45 percent FEWER complications in the month following surgery compared to their peers who walked less.
Plus, the odds of complications within 90 days after discharge were slashed in HALF once the researchers adjusted for things like the complexity of the operation.
Now, I’m the first person to admit that 7,500 steps can be a big challenge. But don’t let that daunting number cause you to quit before you start.
The key is to keep moving. Even shorter walks can support the recovery process.
Start with whatever number of steps you can comfortably accomplish. Then, slowly increase your daily number with a GOAL of reaching 7,500.
I recommend using a portable fitness tracker to help keep tabs.
But don’t quit once you reach surgery day. Walking AFTER is critical, too.
Folks who walk after major surgery have faster recoveries, shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, and a lower hospital return rate.
The bottom line is that movement is medicine when preparing for… and rebounding from… surgery.
