Science Says Yes, Hit SNOOZE [Here’s WHY...]
The blaring alarm jolts you awake. Your hand reaches out to silence it.
But then your finger hovers over the snooze button for a second. Something stops you from pressing it.
You might not want to admit it… but the way everyone ELSE regards the snooze button is standing between YOU and enjoying a few more precious moments of blissful sleep.
Let’s face it. The snooze button has a stigma attached to it. It’s been labeled a tool of the “lazy.”
And even worse, everyone insists it’ll harm your sleep cycle.
But what if I was to give you permission to tap that button? Because, it turns out, SCIENCE doesn’t support snoozing’s bad reputation…
There are two types of people in this world.
Earlier risers who hop out of bed ready to take on the world. And snoozers who could use a little more time in La-La land before they’re ready to deal with life (or the grief they’re given for NOT being morning folks).
Well, if you’re a snooze button fan, I have fantastic news! Contrary to popular belief, hitting snooze WON’T harm your sleep cycle.
In fact, sleep researchers at Stanford University say snoozing could actually IMPROVE cognitive functioning and productivity levels throughout the day.
A new study, published in the Journal of Sleep Research, suggests that pressing the snooze button a few times is not harmful.
To understand why, we must take a quick look at something called sleep inertia.
Sleep inertia is the period of grogginess and impaired cognitive functioning we experience after waking from a deep sleep.
During sleep inertia, you may feel disoriented, confused, and unable to think clearly or perform tasks efficiently. This transitional state between sleep and wakefulness can last up to 30 minutes as your brain and body transition to a fully alert state.
But it turns out pounding the sleep button once or twice might allow you to blow right through that transition period, which has BIG benefits for your brain.
This study confirms that regularly taking a “snooze” doesn’t affect overall sleep structure or ability to work later that day.
In fact, study participants performed BETTER on cognitive tests on the days when they were allowed to snooze.
So, go ahead and revel in that cozy warmth a little longer.
Those extra minutes could be precisely what you need to start your day feeling focused and refreshed.
P.S. [ALERT] Poor sleep can RUIN your Golden Years. Here’s why…
