Food Additive SABOTAGES Blood Sugar

If you’re concerned about your blood sugar or diabetes risk, it’s common sense to avoid junk foods like candy and corn chips.

However, researchers uncovered something downright disturbing about foods that countless folks eat daily. A HIDDEN ingredient in even some so-called “healthy” foods could sabotage your best efforts.

A shocking study found many processed and prepared foods contain a food additive that could potentially GIVE you diabetes.

Propionate is a naturally occurring, short-chain fatty acid. It serves vital roles in the body, such as regulating appetite, lowering serum cholesterol, and reducing cancer risks.

But this natural compound has a dark side.

You see, propionate is approved by the FDA to be used in food manufacturing as a mold inhibitor. So, that means it gets produced in a super-concentrated form and dumped into our food.

And research reveals that practice can dangerously backfire.

An animal study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine found that when mice were fed propionate, it…

  • sent blood sugar soaring,
  • triggered insulin resistance, and
  • led to weight gain

Like MOST food additives, the health consequences of propionate have NOT been adequately studied.

But the evidence is finally starting to roll on. The researchers later explored the impact the compound has on HUMANS.

A group of 14 healthy volunteers was split into two. Half of the participants ate meals containing ONE gram of propionate, and the other half didn’t.

In the end the researchers found that, like the mice in the earlier experiment, the folks who ate the propionate-laced meals had MAJOR blood sugar spikes.

The fatty acid causes glucose levels to surge because it increases levels of three blood-sugar-producing hormones:

  • glucagon
  • norepinephrine
  • FABP4

Combined with the high carb content found in many processed foods, your risk for high blood sugar and developing diabetes soars.

Cut as many prepared foods from your diet to avoid being exposed to excess propionate. Instead, make homemade meals with fresh ingredients, including organic produce, wild-caught seafood, and grass-fed meats.
