This COMMON Habit Could KILL You
Cardiovascular disease is a cold-blooded KILLER.
In fact, heart- and circulation-related illnesses are THE leading causes of death worldwide.
A staggering one in three deaths are a result of cardiovascular disease, with heart attack leading the way as the ‘top’ killer.
If you focus on improving your heart health ALONE, your odds of living to a ripe old age skyrocket.
But one increasingly common habit could undo all of that hard work, putting your heart, health, and LIFE at risk.
It’s time to have a serious discussion about SITTING.
Sitting is sometimes referred to as the new cigarette. And for good reason.
Because while many folks have kicked their smoking habit, it’s been replaced with the health-harming routine of sitting far too much.
Similar to smoking, sitting all day has been linked to all sorts of serious health problems including cardiovascular disease.
However, a group of researchers wanted to figure out if sitting was TRULY as bad for our health as smoking. So, they recruited 15,246 volunteers to assess how different movement patterns throughout the day (or LACK of them) are linked to heart health.
Participants wore a gadget on their thigh to track activity levels for an entire day. And they had their heart health assessed.
The researchers then created a list of the activities that MOST benefited the heart compared to sitting.
Moderate to vigorous activity was the clear winner with the most benefits, followed by…
- light activity,
- standing, and
- sleeping
Yes, you read that right. Even SLEEPING is better for your heart than sitting!
The researchers then crunched the numbers and estimated the benefits of replacing just 30 minutes of sitting with moderate or vigorous exercise.
They found it would translate to reduced body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and hemoglobin A1C (a measurement of blood sugar over time).
Plus, the researchers found that those same minor adjustments to mobility can improve heart health.
Don’t let the jargon intimidate you. Moderate to vigorous activity can be as simple as taking a brisk walk or climbing several flights of stairs.
It’s essentially any activity that increases your heart rate and causes you to breathe faster, even if it’s just for a minute or two.
But remember, ANY activity is better than sitting. You should get up every half an hour to do something around the house or office for a few minutes.
Even a light chore like folding clothes or unloading the dishwasher can counteract sitting and keep your whole cardiovascular system in tip-top shape.
P.S. Gambling trick lets you live LONGER and better.
