The TRUTH About “Natural” Sugars
You’ve probably heard the buzz about swapping table sugar for natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
It sounds like a healthier way to indulge your sweet tooth.
But does making this switch REALLY make a difference?
Let’s dive in and separate fact from fiction!
On average Americans eat a jaw-dropping 17 teaspoons of added sugar DAILY. That’s far above the recommended limit of nine teaspoons for men and six for women.
And all that sugar is taking a toll. Sugar is way more harmful to your health than you might imagine— sending your risks for diabetes, heart disease, weight gain, and cancer climbing.
Now, so-called natural sugars have caught folk’s attention. They sound like a wholesome and healthy alternative. After all, they come straight from Mother Nature’s kitchen.
But here’s the truth: Whether it’s high fructose corn syrup, table sugar, honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup, ALL are still unhealthy added sugars.
Just because a sugar comes from a bee or a tree doesn’t automatically make it a health food. And being a natural sugar doesn’t make it a better choice for your body because, sugar is sugar at the end of the day.
Don’t worry—I’m NOT saying you have to give up all things sweet and delicious. The key is to be mindful of your overall sugar intake, regardless of the source.
Life is about balance, after all.
Enjoy your sweets in moderation and make informed choices. Try gradually reducing the amount of sugar you eat daily.
Small changes can add up to BIG results over time.
