[ALERT] Dangerous Breakfast Myth BUSTED!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

We’ve heard this all our lives… and a lot of us were raised on a heaping breakfast of sausage, eggs, toast, milk, orange juice, AND coffee.

And now, according to a new study from the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University, you could be MISSING vital nutrients if you skip breakfast.

But is this true?

Today I’m going to bust this dangerous breakfast myth once and for all.

*****

Before you go back to giant breakfasts, let’s take a closer look at the study… as well as who sponsored it.

The study used what are called “24-hour dietary recalls” – asking people what they ate the day before.

When the researchers tallied the data from all meals eaten in a day, they found that breakfast-skippers had nutritional deficiencies, especially the following:

  • folate,
  • calcium,
  • iron,
  • and vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C and D.

This led the researchers to conclude that they must have a lower-quality diet than those eating breakfast.

Sounds pretty straightforward… until you read the fine print.

The research was funded by a regional dairy association – and guess which meal you tend to eat  the most dairy during?

Saying that people are nutrient deficit is nothing new – studies show MOST people don’t get the right amount of nutrition. But skipping certain meals isn’t the culprit.

The real problem is twofold.

Personally, I’m a big believer in compacting your mealtimes. Simply put, plan your meals so that they’re within a window of time. For example, you could stick to 9AM to 5PM.

This form of “fasting” has amazing benefits for your blood sugar, mental status, and overall health.

The second problem is that we often don’t get the nutrients our bodies need – no matter when we eat. This is because of the way our food is grown, processed, and because we love to eat food that’s not so good for us.

If you eat well most of the time, you don’t have to worry about which meals you are eating… simply follow what works for you.

But if you don’t eat so well, then you need to make up for those nutritional shortfalls by eating highly-nutritious food whenever possible, or by taking supplements to make up for what you are missing.

Working with an integrative nutritionist can help you determine where to fill in the gaps.
