Avoiding People With Coronavirus? Don’t Be So Sure

You know by now that you need to be extra careful to avoid people who may be infected with this new coronavirus (COVID-19).

We’re getting bombarded with daily messages about good hygiene, “social distancing,” and avoiding large crowds.

And that’s all good advice.

But if your head is constantly on a swivel, looking for anyone coughing and sneezing, that may not be enough to keep you safe.

Because coronavirus can be a lot more sneaky than we realized. In fact, it can often hide right in plain sight.

People can have the coronavirus and literally have no symptoms.

The coronavirus is similar to the 2002 SARS outbreak where people cough, sneeze, and have other respiratory issues – so you would think it would be pretty easy to see when someone is sick.

That is not true. Some people get infected and only have gastrointestinal issues (like diarrhea) and not respiratory ones.

Some people have NO SYMPTOMS.

In a recent study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers tell the story of a Chinese woman who left Wuhan (where the virus began) to visit a family 400 miles away. She had zero symptoms.

Right after her visit, five members of her family became deathly ill with coronavirus.

Later lab tests revealed the woman did have exposure to the virus but no symptoms.

This “carrier status” is rare but is also seen in other viral diseases (like strep and hepatitis) where the virus doesn’t show up in children, but they can pass it on.

So how do you protect yourself from a virus that can hide so well?

Isolation and washing hands are your best first steps.

But I know you’re looking for more.

I was recently at the grocery store watching people hoard food and saw that almost every cart was piled high with cases of soda (and toilet paper).

My number one suggestion of you is to severely cut back on sugar: sugar is well known to drop your immune system.

In the same vein, you want to beef up your immune system by eating good quality proteins.

You can also use immune supporting herbs like oregano, elderberry, garlic, onions, and medical mushrooms.

Also, to protect your immune system, make sure you’re getting enough exercise and good sleep.
