Boredom BUSTING Hack Keeps You Sane AND Healthy
This time of year, I start to feel a little stir-crazy.
Cabin fever sets in as I tire of the cold and snow. And I start thinking about the warmer weather that’s right around the corner (but still feels SO far away).
You see, I enjoy walking, hiking, and running outside. It’s good for both my body and soul.
But there are days here in Colorado when I CAN’T spend time outdoors. Either the snow is too deep, or it’s simply too icy, cold, or muddy.
Thankfully, I have a boredom-busting trick up my sleeve that makes these last few weeks before the big thaw bearable…
When I can’t get outdoors, having a solid PLAN for exercising at home keeps me sane. These are the days I turn to the treadmill.
I have a love-hate relationship with my treadmill. You may feel the same way about a piece of exercise equipment in your own home.
I’m glad it’s there when I need it. But I can get incredibly bored running on it.
So over the years, I’ve developed a few tricks to banish the boredom. They keep me moving when it feels awfully tempting to just park myself on the couch instead.
And they can help YOU get through your OWN home workouts regardless of which piece of at-home exercise equipment you’re struggling with:
- Podcasts or Audiobooks: I usually start my walk or run by listening to a podcast. These keep my mind engaged and focused for at least the first half hour. If I am on the treadmill much longer, I switch to my next trick.
- Music: Listening to music is great because it helps you keep up your pace. And you can even add variety to your workout by slowing down and speeding up depending on what’s playing. This brings me to my next boredom-busting trick.
- Variety: The old saying “variety is the spice of life” is true. Introducing variety to your workout makes them more engaging. You can change how fast you’re going, vary your intensity, and go “uphill” or “downhill” if you use a treadmill or bike trainer.
- Scenery: One of the biggest reasons people get bored using home exercise equipment is because the view doesn’t change. I’ve found watching free YouTube videos of different places around the world solves this problem.
Sometimes, weather or circumstances makes exercising at home the best or only option. These boredom-fighting tricks can make it feel less like a chore. So go ahead and give them a try.
P.S. As you age, your goal should be to AVOID frailty for as long as possible. And new research has revealed a simple combination that can get the job done. CLICK HERE for the details.
