BREAKING: Symptom “Clue” Helps Identify COVID?
Dear Reader,
I’m sure you’ve probably seen the list of COVID-19 symptoms so many times that they’re practically burned onto the inside of your eyelids.
The symptom list can create a lot of anxiety, especially this time of year when it can be hard to distinguish between allergies, a cold… or something worse.
But there is some good news if you’re one of those grappling with possible symptoms.
Research shows that a “symptom clue” could help distinguish between COVID and something else.
A new study, released by researchers at the University of Southern California and published in the journal Frontier Public Health, found that COVID-19 symptoms tend to appear in a specific order.
The researchers looked at data from 55,000 patients in China and found that most people follow the same order of symptoms.
Here is what the researchers found.
Fever was first, followed by:
- Cough
- Muscle pain
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
What you should take note of about this list is that with the flu you can get the fever cough and muscle pain, BUT it’s the stomach issues (nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea) that really set COVID apart.
… The breathing problems tend to show up later.
So, if you DON’T have nausea and vomiting or diarrhea, does that means you don’t have COVID-19?
The answer no. If you’ve had exposure to someone with the disease, that is what should drive you to get tested.
But understanding that stomach issues are a big part of COVID-19 can help you seek care early. It’s also worth noting COVID can express itself uniquely in different people – so if there’s any question that you think you’ve been exposed, seek healthcare immediately.
