Clobber Cold Symptoms and Feel Better FAST
Before leaving on a trip recently my daughter was feeling a bit under the weather. She was worried she might be getting sick and asked how to recover more quickly from a cold.
I explained that there’s still no cure for the common cold. But, certain foods and self-care practices CAN ease symptoms and shorten their duration.
In other words, you can feel better FAR faster. And that’s what REALLY counts.
With so many folks fighting this seasonal nuisance right now I thought I’d share the “beat a cold” advice I gave my daughter with you, too.
If you’re battling your own bout of sniffles and sneezes you can ALSO bounce back faster with these seven simple steps.
- Staying hydrated is key during a cold. Drink plenty of fluids like water, broths, and juice to thin mucus. Warm liquids like chicken soup, lemon water, or honey tea can also soothe a sore throat.
- Sipping ginger tea reduces inflammation and combats viruses with its warming, immune-boosting effects. (I’m a big ginger tea fan.)
- Nutrient-rich foods are also vital for powering your immune system to knock out the bug quicker. Vegetables pack a nutritional punch, while proteins such as chicken, fish, and eggs provide critical energy.
- Make sure you’re getting plenty of the vitamins C and D. C can decrease the severity of the common cold by 15 percent while D can cut the risk of respiratory infections in half in folks with low levels. And D may ALSO reduce the severity of your cold should you get sick. A good multivitamin will cover most of your bases unless the cold (or flu) gets much worse.
- Lots of rest and sleep give your body a chance to direct all its resources toward healing.
- If there’s a sauna at a nearby gym or community center, “sweating it out” can ease symptoms and make you feel better faster. A hot tub soak can also do the trick.
- Take a break from your electronics and head outside if the weather permits. Fresh air and sunshine can do wonders for your health regardless of what you’re suffering from.
P.S. This small (but powerful!) berry could be the best way to DESTROY viruses such as the common cold.
