Common Nutrient Is Colon Cancer’s Kryptonite!?
Experts estimate that in 2024 alone, 611,720 Americans will die from colon cancer. That’s around 1680 souls lost a day. And your risk rises with age.
That makes now… BEFORE you or a loved one gets sideswiped with an unexpected diagnosis… the time to think about this deadly disease.
After all, one thing no one ever bothers to warn you about is how RUSHED everything is.
As you sit there trying to even PROCESS the news that you have cancer, you’re already being pressed to make decisions about your treatments.
But one choice you make TODAY could prevent this disturbing scenario from ever coming true.
And, should the unthinkable happen and you ARE diagnosed with colon cancer, it could ALSO be the edge you need to survive this killer.
Common vitamin D is colon cancer’s arch-enemy.
Research has linked HIGH levels of the sunshine vitamin to a LOWER risk of developing the disease for quite some time.
And with estimates that over 40 percent of us may have insufficient vitamin D levels, simply making sure yours are topped up could go a long way towards protecting you from colon cancer.
But research has now revealed that vitamin D could ALSO be a lifesaver for folks who have ALREADY been diagnosed with the disease.
One hundred and thirty-nine folks with untreated metastatic colorectal cancer were recruited for the study.
The volunteers were split into two groups.:
- Group One: The high-dose group was given 8000 IU of vitamin D daily for two weeks and then switched to 4000 IU a day, along with standard chemotherapy.
- Group Two: The low-dose group was given 400 IU (the recommended daily allowance for vitamin D is 800 IU) daily for the whole study, along with chemotherapy.
During the two years of follow-up, Group One participants who received the higher dose of D were far less likely to have their cancer progress or die than the low-dose group.
In other words, the sunshine vitamin appears to have SIGNIFICANTLY SLOWED the growth of colon cancer.
More research is needed to determine the precise relationship between vitamin D and colon cancer.
But given what we ALREADY knew about the link between D and lower risk, getting your own levels tested should be a TOP priority.
Seniors, in particular, are at higher risk for D deficiency because of diet, reduced sun exposure, certain medications, absorption issues, and thinning skin.
You can boost your vitamin D levels by spending some time outdoors in direct sunlight daily without sunscreen or protective gear.
And be sure to talk with your doctor about taking a vitamin D supplement.
P.S. What’s the RIGHT amount of sunshine? The ANSWER might surprise you…
