Could Hearing Loss Predict THIS Deadly Disease?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Pardon? What did you say? I didn’t catch that.
If you find yourself asking these questions more than a few times a day, you’re probably already experiencing hearing loss.
Having hearing issues isn’t just frustrating… it can be downright dangerous.
You might miss an important phone call… or not hear the smoke detector going off.
And according to recent research, hearing loss could be an early sign of this deadly disease.
Here’s what you need to know.
*****
Like many things happening in our bodies as we age, hearing can fail so slowly we don’t even notice it.
But now more than ever, you can’t afford to let it slip away.
In a largescale study published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia, researchers found that hearing loss has been linked to dementia.
For the study, researchers surveyed 82,000 adults over the age of 60. The participants were asked to listen to an audio sample of numbers being spoken aloud over fuzzy background noise.
And they found that people who had trouble picking out the numbers had a FAR greater risk of dementia.
Another recent study found people with hearing loss in midlife are up to five times more likely to develop dementia.
While this all sounds like bad news, there’s good too. Researchers think the hearing loss itself isn’t a symptom of dementia but rather a risk factor.
That means if you’re having hearing loss, it’s time to see your doctor and start taking better care of yourself right now.
A good first step is protecting your ears against hearing damage with earmuffs and earplugs whenever you are in a loud place.
If you already have hearing loss, then consider getting a hearing aid. You might be surprised to find out how much you’ve been missing.
