COVID-19: Affecting More than Just Your Lungs? [IMPORTANT]

Dear Reader,

Ever since COVID-19 swept across our nation, we have heard about how the virus damages our lungs.

And the virus certainly does attack the lungs: that’s why we heard all the hubbub about ventilators.

But your lungs aren’t the only thing to worry about.

Recent research shows just how dangerous coronavirus can be for another part of your body…

The reality is that this virus isn’t going away anytime soon.

One of the primary symptoms of COVID-19 is problems breathing – along with a fever, feeling tired, and muscle aches.

Your lungs are certainly something to be concerned about if we’re talking about COVID-19, but a new study from the University of Virginia shows that the disease has a very nasty cardiovascular side which can lead to complications including heart failure, heart attack or stroke.

The research study, published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, combined information from 45 studies.

The review showed that 24 percent of those with COVID19 were suffering from acute heart failure at the time they were diagnosed.

There are three things causing the heart problems: the first is the virus can directly attack heart tissue (just like it directly attacks lung tissue).

The second is COVID19 causes blood clots – which can travel through the body and cause a heart attack or a stroke. COVID19 also increases inflammation – which we all know is bad for brain, heart, and long-term health.

The authors also warn about possible drug interactions when treating COVID-19 patients….as the increased risk of heart attack and stroke may be due to drugs or the drug cocktail doctors are using to try to treat the virus…

For example, hydroxychloroquine (a drug suggested to help with the disease) can cause heart damage and worsen already existing heart damage!

Which is why now, more than ever, is a time to take care of your heart.

Here are some easy steps you can take:

  • Exercise: Exercise not only reduces inflammation but is great for the heart (and the brain). You don’t have to be too crazy, just get out and move your body around a little bit every day.
  • Eat colorful foods: This means getting enough vegetables in your diet. If you can’t stand veggies, you can “cheat” by getting your veggies and other superfoods in a powered form. I take one every day by mixing it into yogurt and some berries.
  • Avoid vegetable oils: Vegetable oils, especially trans fatty acids, are like setting off tiny bombs in your blood stream which increase inflammation.
  • Fish oil: One of the most powerful anti-inflammatories is fish oil. It works inside your body to keep inflammatory proteins low.
  • Curcumin: This extract from turmeric is great at helping the body modulate inflammation. Unless you get a ton of this in your food, you should think about supplementing.

Take a few healthy steps and your heart will be in better shape – no matter what disease comes your way.
