[COVID-19] Could This Mineral Boost Survival?

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

If you’re like most Americans, you’ve been following every COVID-19 story like a hawk… especially the stories about how NOT to get it.

And you probably know that conditions like obesity, diabetes, and age can put people at a higher risk.

You’ve probably even heard of the importance of getting enough vitamin C, vitamin D, and even melatonin.

Now researchers have discovered a mineral that’s just as important as those nutrients… if not more.

And today I’m going to tell you everything you need to know.

I’m talking about zinc.

A recent study gave us all good reason to add a little more of this essential nutrient to our diet.

A group of Spanish researchers found that one group of patients with low levels of zinc had a harder time fighting COVID-19… and even worse, they had a higher risk of death than those with enough zinc.

For the new study, researchers collected data from a group of 611 asymptomatic, middle-aged COVID-19 patients, including their baseline zinc levels when they were admitted to the hospital.

Next, they rated the clinical severity of each patient’s infection as it progressed.

And unfortunately, 14 percent of the patients passed away. The researchers found that their blood zinc levels averaged below 43 mcg/dl.

In comparison, the average among surviving patients was slightly higher, at 63 mcg/dl. In fact, the researchers found that people with low zinc (below 50mcg/dl) had 2.3 times the risk of death.

Additionally, the researchers found lower levels of interleukin-6 in patients with healthy zinc levels. Interleukin-6 is an infection marker that’s often used to measure the severity of a case.

Doctors have long known that low levels of zinc are bad for people with infections, and this study further proves that.

In some studies, zinc has been shown to slow down the replication and reproduction of viruses.

And now it could be one of our greatest allies.

P.S. There’s been a lot of theories floating around about what really works when it comes to stopping the spread of COVID-19. Well know there’s proof that one of these common methods actually DOES. Read more right here.
