[COVID-19] They Found the Virus HERE!?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Researchers are learning more about COVID-19 every day… and public health advice seems to change every time you turn around.
First, we were told it could live on surfaces. (And if you’re anything like me, you probably spent a lot of time wiping down groceries and packages.)
Then we learned that it spread through close contact and respiratory droplets. That’s when we all began living 6 ft apart and masked.
But we’ve still got more to discover about this new virus.
It looks like there’s yet ANOTHER place the coronavirus can hide and travel… and it’s a lot closer than you think.
I’m talking about YOUR MOUTH.
An international team of scientists discovered that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 infections, can be found in your saliva.
Like we discovered early on, the virus needs an entry point into your body, usually through the nose and even the tear ducts.
But now researchers have discovered that it can gain access through another portal: your mouth.
And from there, it begins to wreak havoc, by spreading the disease throughout your body.
To test this theory, researchers gathered tissue from the mouths of COVID-19 patients. And just over half had the virus present in their mouth.
But the coronavirus wasn’t just living in the patients’ mouths… it was present in their saliva.
When the researchers found this out, they tested something else… if the virus could be spread this way.
And as it turns out, it can.
That means that those adorable sloppy kisses from your grandkids… or sharing a drink with your spouse… could BOTH mean a COVID-19 infection.
Thankfully, the same advice about staying safe during the pandemic rings true… PLUS we have the vaccine now.
So keep washing your hands, wearing a mask when you go out in public, and if you or a relative contracts the virus, make sure you quarantine from each other for at least two weeks.
P.S. Boosting your immune system just got a lot more exciting… did you know wine could be one of your best bets against warding off illness? Find out more right here.
