Two people cheering drinks.

Delicious Drink PREVENTS Falls? (Wow!)

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

There are a lot of things people don’t tell you about staying healthy into your golden years.

You’ve heard that you should take care of your heart, your brain, and your blood sugar.

But one of the biggest dangers you’ll face as you age doesn’t get talked about enough…

Falling is one of the major sideliners of seniors, yet no one has developed a solid prevention plan.

A fall can lead to bruises and pain that lasts a long time… or worse, it can lead to shattered bones.

Then before you know it, there goes your independence.

That’s why you need a plan to prevent falls before they happen.

And believe it or not, this delicious drink could be the key.

I’m talking about protein shakes.

Now, you may think protein shakes are for that guy you see out running at 5 o’clock in the morning, but this isn’t true. They’re for everyone, especially seniors.

You see, protein is the main building block of muscles, and muscles are what we need to keep in shape in order to keep from falling. Protein is also essential for strong bones (yes, bones are more than just calcium!).

While your calorie needs decline as you get older, your protein needs actually go up.

In a review of 35 studies, researchers examined whether seniors who were given a daily whey protein supplement experienced fewer falls.

And they discovered that protein not only improved muscle performance and increased aerobic capacity, it reduced the risk of sarcopenia (muscle wasting), and – drumroll, please – it DID reduce the number of falls.

It didn’t stop there. Protein increased muscle-building in the elderly and also helped to keep people feeling satisfied longer, so they didn’t snack as often. The researchers thought this is why the participants maintained a healthy weight.

Of course, it helps if you exercise some during the day, but it’s good news that protein alone can help you keep your muscles strong AND prevent those falls.

If you’d like to try making your own protein shakes, check out these recipes.
