Diabetes Risk PLUMMETS with THIS Vitamin
I’ve got to be honest with you.
When it comes to health, the future is looking a bit grim.
If you’re no spring chicken, a tsunami of poor health could be headed your way.
Recent research has found that 25 percent of people over 65 ALREADY have diabetes.
But it gets worse. Over 50 percent meet the criteria for prediabetes.
In other words, they’re a hop, skip, and jump away from a full-blown case of type-2.
And trust me, traveling down the diabetes road is NOT a fun trip. Having diabetes skyrockets your chance of developing heart disease, kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, and certain cancers.
Lucky for us, one of the BEST ways to begin to dial down your diabetes risk is ALSO the simplest.
In this case, “starting simple” means ensuring your vitamin D is topped up.
I’ve written more about the importance of getting enough vitamin D than ANY other nutrient. And for good reason. It’s vital for staying healthy AND is one of the most common vitamin deficiencies.
Vitamin D is critical for bone, heart, brain, and immune system health. Plus, it plays a central role in blood sugar control.
For a new meta-analysis published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, researchers examined the records of 4,190 volunteers who had been followed for three years.
Some participants took between 3,000 and 4,000 IU of vitamin D daily, and others didn’t supplement their D levels.
After some serious number crunching and analysis, the researchers concluded there was a 15 percent drop in the number of folks diagnosed with diabetes in the vitamin D group.
That ALONE is an amazing result. But there’s more…
Tucked away near the end of the analysis was a gem. Folks taking D who had also lost just five percent of their body weight and increased their physical activity over the study period had THEIR risk of developing diabetes PLUMMET by an astounding 58 percent.
And THAT right there, my friend is a formula for decreasing your OWN diabetes risk: lose a little weight, exercise a bit more, AND take your vitamin D.
Before taking a high-dose D supplement, be sure to ask your doc for a blood test to check your levels. If they ARE low, they can help you determine the exact right dosage for you.
