Diet “Trick” Puts the BRAKES on Brain Fog
Dear Reader,
I think we can all agree, there’s one big downside to getting older: everything starts to slow down.
You move slower… it takes you longer to get things done…
Even your brain takes longer. It’s harder to think and remember things as clearly as you used to.
Sometimes it even feels like it’s working in slow motion.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
What if I told you could stop brain fog in its tracks? And it all boils down to what you put on your dinner plate…
If you ever had a large meal with a lot of carbohydrates and felt sluggish afterwards – you already know what carbs can do to your body.
Apply that same sluggish-feeling to your brain.
Because, believe it or not, carbohydrates slow your brain down. Especially if you’ve been a heavy carb eater most of your life.
The solution to this? Eating a low-carb diet.
What’s better, even if your brain has slowed down, switching to a low carb diet can throw that aging in reverse.
A new study, published by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that eating a low carb diet can seriously help those experiencing age-related brain changes.
You see, as we age, communication between the regions of your brain naturally starts to deteriorate.
What happens is, as we get older our brains start losing the ability to metabolize glucose (sugar) and energy from food efficiently. This causes your nerve cells to slowly starve and the brain networks to fall apart.
And scarily enough, the research team found that people as young as 40 already experience changes in their brains.
The good news? Researchers also found that those changes seem to be reversible — or preventable altogether.
Just by switching to a diet that avoids simple carbs. Some examples are foods like bread, pasta, cakes and pastries.
Your brain uses one of two energy sources: glucose or ketones. Ketones are the fuel source people on a low-carb diet use. And as I mentioned earlier, as we get older our brains stop being able to get proper fuel from glucose.
So, when your brain is given more efficient fuel in the form of ketones it has more energy. In fact, ketones provide greater cellular energy than sugars.
If you find your mind slipping, consider giving sugar the boot and eat foods that are low-carb. Or try supplementing with a ketone supplement.
