Do This Before ANY Cancer Treatment
It’s no secret… I’m no fan of most conventional cancer treatments.
I’ve seen too many people suffer through the agony of chemotherapy and radiation.
And the treatments either didn’t work… or the cancer came back anyway.
So why do cancer treatments work sometimes… and not others?
It may all come down to you gut.
And there are some simple steps you need to take before beginning ANY cancer treatment.
A new study suggested that gut health makes a big difference in the success of your cancer treatment.
Researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center noticed certain people did well with standard immunotherapy cancer treatment and others didn’t.
The lead investigator of the study, Dr. Jennifer Wargo, began to suspect it may have to do with the subject’s microbiome (the collection of bacteria in the gut).
And she was right.
Researches divided volunteers into two categories: those who responded to treatment and those who didn’t.
When researchers transferred the gut microbes from humans to mice, the mice mimicked their response: the mice that got the non-responding humans’ microbes also didn’t respond to treatment.
They then switched the microbes and the mice responded and the treatment worked.
Here is what is important: the researchers found that many of the non-responders had rounds of antibiotics (which destroy even healthy gut bacteria).
The take-home is that the success of cancer treatments has a lot to do with your microbiome.
So, how to you get to a healthy microbiome?
Follow Dr. Scott’s Road to Microbiome Mastery:
- Stay away from antibiotics – unless you absolutely need them.
- Eat fermented foods, including sauerkraut, pickles, yogurt. (And for the adventurous: miso, natto, and kimchi).
- Take a good probiotic: I personally like to rotate probiotics to get a wide variety of bacteria species.
- Eat plenty of fiber prebiotics: probiotics need food and fiber is one of the best ways to feed them. Eat plenty of fresh raw vegetables to get your fiber.
- Sleep well, keep stress low, and exercise.
Helping your microbiome will help your immune system – and will lead to more successful cancer treatments.
