Don’t Take Ibuprofen Until You Read This
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Maybe you keep it in the medicine cabinet, right next to the toothpaste.
Or maybe you even have a small bottle in your purse for emergencies.
Either way, most of us are never too far from a bottle of ibuprofen.
For headaches or those nagging pains that come with age, it’s practically our “go to” medicine.
But if you “go to” it too often, you may be setting yourself up for major problems.
Because a new study shows that ibuprofen could be causing your muscles to literally waste away.
And that’s not just dangerous for seniors – it could be deadly.
Unless you are body builder, you probably don’t think about your muscles very often.
But they play a key role in maintaining your bone mass, controlling your metabolism, and even regulating blood your sugar.
If you want to live a long, healthy life, you need to take care of your muscles.
Unfortunately, ibuprofen seems to do the exact opposite.
A recent study looked at people who were put on an exercise routine and who took high-dose ibuprofen, and compared them to another group taking low-dose ibuprofen.
After 8 weeks, the group that took the low dose had TWICE as much muscle mass as the high-dose group.
The experts suggest that the use of anti-inflammatory drugs can stop muscle growth because they interfere with the muscle healing process.
Destroying muscles is only one of many side effects that comes with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen. In addition to muscle wasting, NSAIDs cause stomach problems (including bleeding and ulcers), kidney failure, and even heart disease.
So, what is the take-home message? Occasional use of a pain killer is no big deal, just don’t use them every day.
Remember, you can treat inflammation naturally by taking fish oil, curcumin, and other natural anti-inflammatories. Using natural medicine is a much better way to keep inflammation in check – without all the side effects.
