Eat Your Way to a Healthy Brain!

Dear Reader,

As you age, few things become as important as having a healthy brain.

Because without your brain you lose your memories… your identity… even your independence.

Ask your mainstream doctor how to keep your brain and they will only shrug their shoulders and probably suggest a drug (that’s loaded with harmful side effects).

But I’m here to tell you that’s NONSENSE.

Because there’s an amazing way to drop your risk of developing mind-robbing dementia.

And it starts at your dinner table.

I’m talking about a diet, specifically, the Mediterranean diet.

A Mediterranean diet focuses on low-starch vegetables, whole grains, good proteins, and olive oil.

To figure out how diet affects brain function and dementia, scientist pulled data two study called AREDS and AREDS2 – studies that investigated diet and supplementation to prevent macular degeneration.

Participants were randomly chosen to receive a supplement called AREDS (antioxidants, zinc) or placebo. In the AREDS2 study participants were randomly assigned to receive the antioxidants and zinc with added lutein/zeaxanthin, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

The scientists of the brain study, published in the Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association, were surprised to find that the Mediterranean diet appeared to have the most protective effect on cognition.

It turns out that the diet that’s known to maintain healthy eyes is also great for your brain!

Ten years into the study, participants with the highest fish consumption had the slowest rate of cognitive decline.

This study joins a few others that show keeping a diet close to the Mediterranean one is a great way to protect your brain long-term.

Even better? The Mediterranean diet helps slow cognitive decline even in people who already have the disease.

Many versions of the Mediterranean diet exist, but I prefer the one which focuses on good quality proteins such as grass-fed beef, pasture raised chickens, good quality organic vegetables. For oils you can use olive oil avocado oil, butter, and coconut oil.

So: add fish to your diet, eat more vegetables, and throw away every vegetable oil you have besides olive or avocado oil.
