Fix Your “SAD” Immune System in 1 Step (Easy)

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Health researchers call our diet the “Standard American Diet” or the “SAD diet.”

And that’s a good way to describe it.

Our diet is SAD because it is full of sugars, artificial flavors, and artificial colors. In addition, it’s overcooked and lacks nutrients.

It also wreaks havoc on your immune system.

But now, you can kill two birds with one stone.

Researchers have found a way to fix your “SAD” immune system in one step.

The secret? Fermented foods.

You already probably know, but your microbiome is a BIG deal. The short version goes like this: if you want to improve your health, there is almost nothing better you can do than support your microbiome.

That’s why I was happy to read about Stanford researchers discovering that a 10-week diet high in fermented foods BOOSTED microbiome diversity.

Not only that, it improved the immune system.

The researchers began by splitting the participants into two groups: one got a high fiber diet and the other simply ate fermented foods.

By the end of the study, the group eating the fermented foods had a MUCH healthier microbiome and more microbiome diversity.

But that’s not all… the researchers also measured inflammatory proteins and found that those eating more fermented foods had LESS inflammation.

As you probably know, inflammation is the root of disease… and having lower levels BEFORE you even get sick is key to staying healthy.

A word of caution: just because the fiber group didn’t see as much improvement doesn’t mean you should neglect fiber. It’s still extremely good for you, especially vegetable fiber.

If you want to eat more fermented foods, load up on sauerkraut, pickles, and yogurt. If you don’t like any of those, then consider supplementing with a probiotic.
